This is just one of the aspects of Dostoevsky’s creativity that relate him to the styles and visual languages of the modern poster. Another thing that links his writing with contemporary visual arts is the complexity and polyphony of Dostoevsky’s multi-layered narrative.
Today’s poster is moving away from its traditional concise imagery and mandatory clarity of message towards the fluid complexity, multidimensional compositions, and semantic ambiguity, all of which aligns the poster with ideas expressed by Dostoevsky.
As part of this call we have received nearly 1000 poster submissions by artists from around the globe. Admitted artworks can be found at the Facebook group “DOSTOEVSKY 200 / BEAUTY SAVES THE WORLD”.
